Professional Experience

John Knox graduated from the University of Reading in 1973, and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1976. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1992.

J R Knox

John established his own property consultancy in 1998 to advise on residential and commercial sales, purchases and lettings. He specialises in property in the Notting Hill, Highgate and Hampstead areas of North London.

John is a Non-Executive Director of the Estuary Housing Association which has over 3,000 homes in the Essex area of the UK. The Association acquires the land and develops, leases and manages the properties.

In addition, John acts as a consultant to JMW Barnard Management Ltd. This firm operates principally in the Notting Hill area, acquiring, refurbishing and managing a portfolio of mixed residential and commercial property that is held by its clients as long-term investments.

As well as advising on Energy Assessment, John has a particular interest in listed buildings.

Winkworth Surveyors

In 1987 John was appointed a partner with Winkworth Surveyors. He was responsible for residential surveying work, as well as party wall and professional negligence work.

John was also responsible for setting-up and managing a branch of the firm to carry out residential sales and lettings in Central London.

Sinton Andrews

In 1982 John joined Sinton Andrews to establish a department to undertake professional work in the residential property sector in London.

Abu Dhabi Investment Authority(ADIA)

The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority was established in 1975 to invest surplus funds from the oil revenues of Abu Dhabi. It is a premier global institutional investor with the mission of securing and maintaining the current and future prosperity of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Its investments include an international real estate portfolio.

John was recruited in 1978 to work in Abu Dhabi to assist with the management of the Authority's real estate investments, including monitoring diversification, returns and the reports received from the local managing agents. He also worked on new investment, including office properties in the UK, United States and France.

Walker Son & Packman

In 1976 John joined the Chartered Surveying firm of Walker Son & Packman. He started working in London. However, he felt the need for international experience and moved in 1977 to Cairo where the firm had a newly established office advising British firms on investment in Egypt. In 1978 he returned to the UK and took over the management of the Leeds office.

Inland Revenue, District Valuer’s Office

After leaving college John worked with the District Valuer’s office in Richmond upon Thames and then Westminster where he gained experience in the valuation of residential and commercial property for tax purposes.
